Chip Perry is president and chief executive officer of TrueCar, Inc. In his role, Perry is responsible for TrueCar's strategic direction, product vision and operations in the company’s Santa Monica headquarters and San Francisco and Austin, Texas, offices.

 

Perry also manages TrueCar’s relationships with key external stakeholders, including dealers, dealer associations, automakers, consumers, regulators, affinity partners and investors.

 

Perry joined TrueCar after serving as president and CEO of RentPath LLC, parent company of ApartmentGuide.com and Rent.com.

 

Previously, Perry led AutoTrader.com in 1997, serving as its CEO from the company’s inception until 2013. While there he guided AutoTrader’s evolution from a one-person startup into the world’s largest online automotive marketplace, with $1.5 billion in annual revenue, 20,000 dealer customers, 16 million monthly unique visitors and 3,500 employees. Under his guidance, AutoTrader.com also created an array of transformative digital solutions that have helped thousands of dealers expand their presence online.

 

Prior to starting AutoTrader.com, Chip was a vice president of new business development at the Los Angeles Times. In the early 1990s he led the team that launched TimesLink, one of the nation’s first major newspaper online services. It was this experience that gave him the insight that digitally powered automotive classified advertising on the Internet presented an enormous growth opportunity.

 

His extensive career includes working as a management consultant in McKinsey & Co.’s Los Angeles office and business development and civil engineering positions for the Bechtel Group.

 

Chip holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

Christopher Claus, Chairman of the Board of Directors

Christopher Claus has served as a member of our Board of Directors since April 2014 and as Chairman of the Board of Directors since February 2016. From December 1994 to March 2014, Mr. Claus served in various senior executive roles at USAA, a Fortune 150 diversified financial services company, most recently as Executive Vice President of USAA Enterprise Advice Group and President of USAA Financial Services Group. Previously, he served as the Senior Vice President and then President of USAA Investment Management Company. Mr. Claus also served as the Vice President of Investment Sales and Service. Prior to USAA, Mr. Claus was Vice President of Equity Trading and Retirement Plans at Norwest Investment Services, Inc. Mr. Claus holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota—Duluth and an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.

John Krafcik, Director
John KrafcikJohn Krafcik

John Krafcik served as our President from April 2014 until September 2015.  Mr. Krafcik has served as a member of our Board of Directors since February 2014. Since September 2015, Mr. Krafcik has been the Chief Executive Officer of Google, Inc.’s Self Driving Car Project.  Mr. Krafcik was with Hyundai Motor America, a South Korean multinational automaker, from March 2004 to December 2013, during which time he served as President and Chief Executive Officer from November 2008 to December 2013. Mr. Krafcik was responsible for the strategic direction and management of Hyundai Motor America’s operations in the United States. Prior to joining Hyundai Motor America, Mr. Krafcik was at Ford Motor Company, where he held various product development leadership positions. Mr. Krafcik holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an M.S. in Management from Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Robert Buce, Director

Robert Buce has served as a member of our Board of Directors since April 2005. Mr. Buce served as our Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from September 2005 to September 2008. Prior to joining us, Mr. Buce founded and served as Chief Financial Officer and a senior member of the management team of Build-To-Order, Inc., an automotive company focused on modularized outsourced manufacturing of vehicles. Prior to Build-To-Order, Mr. Buce held a variety of senior management positions, including Managing Partner, at KPMG LLP, an accounting and advisory firm, and Managing Director at BearingPoint, Inc., a related consulting firm. Mr. Buce also served on the board of directors of KPMG LLP from March 1991 to November 1995. Since July 2000 Mr. Buce has served as Chairman of PalisadesHoldings, a sole proprietorship providing independent advisory assistance to a variety of technology services and consumer products and services commercial enterprises. Mr. Buce served on the board of Intersection Technologies, Inc., parent company of F&I Express, a provider of software and services to the automotive industry. Mr. Buce is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) in the State of California and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Buce holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and an M.B.A. from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Steven Dietz, Director

Steven Dietz has served as a member of our Board of Directors since February 2006. Mr. Dietz has been a Partner at Upfront Ventures, a venture capital firm, since its founding in 1996. During his career, Mr. Dietz has overseen numerous investments in the automotive industry. Mr. Dietz holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado.

 

Ion Yadigaroglu, Director

Ion Yadigaroglu has served as a member of our Board of Directors since August 2007. Since July 2004, Mr. Yadigaroglu has served as a Managing Principal at Capricorn Investment Group LLC, an investment firm. Mr. Yadigaroglu holds a Masters in Physics from Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich in Switzerland and a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Stanford University.

Erin Lantz, Director

Erin Lantz leads Zillow Group’s efforts to empower consumers with information and tools to make smart decisions about financing homes. Since joining in 2010, Lantz has built one of Zillow Group’s fastest growing and most profitable businesses, despite operating in a highly regulated environment and in an industry slow to adopt innovative consumer technology. Prior to joining Zillow Group, Lantz was a senior vice president at Bank of America where she led the Direct-to-Consumer purchase home loan business. Before entering the mortgage industry, she worked at the Boston Consulting Group. 

Wes Nichols, Director

Wes Nichols is a leading authority in predictive analytics and ‘big data’ analytics, working with multi-nationals and their executives to deploy smarter planning, allocation and attribution via data-driven decisions. MarketShare, a Neustar Solution, has become one of the world’s largest analytics companies for Chief Marketing Officers. He is also the author of the Harvard Business Review cover story called “Advertising 2.0”, detailing how companies like Ford, MasterCard, EA and others have brought state-of-the-art analytics to their marketing decisions. Prior to starting MarketShare, Wes was with Omnicom Group (NYSE: OMC) as President and CEO of TEQUILA, one of the world’s largest digital agencies, where he developed digital marketing solutions for clients like Nissan, Sony, Pfizer, Adidas, and numerous other brands.
