Chip Perry, President and Chief Executive Officer
Chip Perry is president and chief executive officer of TrueCar, Inc. In his role, Perry is responsible for TrueCar's strategic direction, product vision and operations in the company’s Santa Monica headquarters and San Francisco and Austin, Texas, offices.
Perry also manages TrueCar’s relationships with key external stakeholders, including dealers, dealer associations, automakers, consumers, regulators, affinity partners and investors.
Perry joined TrueCar after serving as president and CEO of RentPath LLC, parent company of ApartmentGuide.com and Rent.com.
Previously, Perry led AutoTrader.com in 1997, serving as its CEO from the company’s inception until 2013. While there he guided AutoTrader’s evolution from a one-person startup into the world’s largest online automotive marketplace, with $1.5 billion in annual revenue, 20,000 dealer customers, 16 million monthly unique visitors and 3,500 employees. Under his guidance, AutoTrader.com also created an array of transformative digital solutions that have helped thousands of dealers expand their presence online.
Prior to starting AutoTrader.com, Chip was a vice president of new business development at the Los Angeles Times. In the early 1990s he led the team that launched TimesLink, one of the nation’s first major newspaper online services. It was this experience that gave him the insight that digitally powered automotive classified advertising on the Internet presented an enormous growth opportunity.
His extensive career includes working as a management consultant in McKinsey & Co.’s Los Angeles office and business development and civil engineering positions for the Bechtel Group.
Chip holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Michael Guthrie, Chief Financial Officer
Michael Guthrie is the Chief Financial Officer of TrueCar. Mike brings more than 20 years of experience advising, investing in and operating technology companies. Mike joined TrueCar in January 2012. Mike oversees finance, accounting, internal controls, treasury, tax, business intelligence and investor relations. Mike’s prior experience in private equity spans both venture capital and complex buyouts and restructurings. He co-founded TPG Ventures in 2000 and was also a principal at Garnett & Helfrich Capital, a middle market buyout firm. Mike started his career on Wall Street at Montgomery Securities and Credit Suisse First Boston, where he advised companies such as JDS Uniphase, Broadcom, RF Micro Devices, OpenWave and SGI on capital raising and strategic matters. Mike holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Bernie Brenner, Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer
Bernie Brenner co-founded TrueCar, Inc. and is executive vice president and chief strategy officer, overseeing the company’s strategic partnerships, OEM relations and ALG, TrueCar’s analytics division.
Previously, Brenner served as executive vice president of business development responsible for the acquisition and management of TrueCar’s strategic partnerships. Prior to the inception of TrueCar, Brenner was vice president of business development for Carfax where he secured and managed the company's strategic partnerships with automobile manufacturers, dealer systems and online marketing partners.
Brenner was CEO at PromiseMark, Inc., an Internet security and privacy company, which was acquired by the credit reporting agency Experian. He also founded 1-800-CAR-SEARCH, a used vehicle search company for buyers and sellers, where he oversaw marketing and product development.
Brenner is the author of The Sumo Advantage, a #1 Amazon bestseller focused on leveraging strategic business partnerships to create sustainable growth. He is also a frequent speaker on business development and host of the podcast Extreme Biz Dev.
Overall, Brenner brings more than 20 years of experience in business development within the automotive retail industry.
Brenner holds an A.S. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Farmingdale, and a B.S. in Business Management from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Tom Taira, Executive Vice President, Chief Product Officer
Tom Taira co-founded TrueCar and is the Chief Product Officer. Tom has more than 20 years of experience in Internet, mobile and automotive retail product strategy and development. Tom is responsible for product strategy and development across all areas of the company. Prior to rejoining TrueCar in November 2010, Tom served as founder and CEO of Honk LLC, an automotive social media website which TrueCar acquired. Tom also served as TrueCar's Chief Strategy Officer from March 2005 to February 2008. Prior to TrueCar, Tom led product strategy and partner management at Proxicom, a technology development firm. Tom also served as Director of Strategy at Build-to-Order, Inc., a next-generation automotive company focused on modularized outsourced manufacturing of vehicles and eBusiness Strategy Manager at Toyota Motor Sales, USA. Tom holds a B.A. in Social Sciences from the University of California, Irvine and an M.B.A. from Georgetown University.
Neeraj Gunsagar, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer
Neeraj Gunsagar is the executive vice president and chief marketing officer of TrueCar, Inc. In this role, he oversees the company’s marketing strategy, which includes consumer brand marketing, partner and dealer marketing, corporate communications and consumer acquisition. He is also responsible for helping the development team implement product improvements for both consumers and dealers.
Previously Gunsagar was chief revenue officer, overseeing revenue growth for the company, including customer acquisition strategy, as well as optimizing integration and alignment between all profit-driving functions such as Dealer Operations and Affinity Partnerships.
Prior to joining TrueCar in 2012, Gunsagar founded corporate strategy and investment firm Saful Capital Partners. He was also vice president at investment firm Matix Partners' India and Garnett & Helfrich Capital, a middle market buyout firm.
Gunsagar started his career on Wall Street at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), where he advised companies such as Worldcom and Iridium on complex restructurings and acquisitions.
Overall, Gunsagar brings more than 15 years of experience advising, investing in and operating technology companies.
Gunsagar holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
Jim Nguyen, Executive Vice President, General Manager of ALG
Jim Nguyen co-founded TrueCar and is the EVP, General Manager of ALG. Jim has more than 20 years of experience in strategy, finance, accounting, operations and corporate administration. Jim is responsible for corporate and business development as well as the overall management of TrueCar's affinity partner channel. Previously, Jim served as TrueCar's CFO until January 2012. Prior to TrueCar, Jim held senior positions at software, telecom and consulting firms, including ePolicy Solutions, Zyan Communications, The Goetzman Group, and Deloitte & Touche. Jim's automotive background includes multi-functional roles at Toyota Motor Sales, USA, including strategic planning, product planning and corporate finance as well as venture-backed start-ups Model E and Build-to-Order, Inc. Jim is a CPA and holds a B.A. in Economics/Accounting from Claremont McKenna College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. He serves on the Board of Directors for WebCars, an online automotive company in China, and the advisory boards of WomenCertified, the company behind The Women's Choice Award, and Tagnos, a software company providing analytics and tracking solutions to hospitals.
Lucas Donat, Executive Vice President, Chief Brand Officer
Lucas Donat is the chief brand officer of TrueCar, Inc., responsible for brand and positioning, consumer and trade advertising and creative content development across TV, radio and digital mediums.
Previously, Donat was chief marketing officer, where he oversaw creative strategy development and user engagement for television, radio and digital advertising. During this time, he also served as part-time CEO of a Santa Monica-based advertising agency that he founded in 1990. In 2012, his agency, Tiny Rebellion, became the company’s agency of record and played a central role in evolving the brand’s identity for both dealer and consumer audiences.
Prior to partnering with TrueCar, Donat led Tiny Rebellion as it presided over the branding of several internet companies, including eHarmony, LegalZoom and Hotwire. Under his creative leadership Tiny Rebellion won Ad Age’s Small Agency of the Year in 2014.
Overall, Donat has more than 20 years of advertising experience. Lucas attended Ithaca College’s School of Communications.
Brian Skutta, Executive Vice President, Dealer Sales and Service
Brian is the EVP of dealer sales and service at TrueCar. He oversees all aspects of dealer strategy and operations, and is responsible for strengthening relationships and improving services across the TrueCar Certified Dealer Network.
Prior to joining TrueCar in February 2016, Brian was President and CEO of AutoAlert, a cloud-based analytics and dealer portfolio management service. His previous executive roles include vice president and general manager for VinSolutions and Haystak Digital Marketing, where he led both companies' rapid growth following their acquisition by AutoTrader.com. At VIN, Skutta managed a highly integrated suite of digital marketing tools, including dealer web sites and inventory management, CRM and desking tools.
Skutta was also the first general manager of AutoTrader.com’s Trade-In Marketplace, where in 2009 he led the launch of a first-of-its-kind service that enabled consumers to receive liquid, sight-unseen offers for their used cars and redeem these offers from participating auto dealers. He spent more than a decade working in various roles for Cox Automotive dealer service businesses.
Brian holds a B.A. in Finance from Auburn University, and in 2015 was named a rising industry star on Auto Remarketing’s “40 Under 40”.
Tommy McClung, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer
Tommy McClung is the EVP, Chief Technology Officer of TrueCar Inc. He’s responsible for defining the strategy, operations and development of TrueCar’s software engineering, data, technology, security and corporate IT initiatives.
Tommy was previously the VP of Product development at TrueCar before becoming CTO. Tommy joined TrueCar in 2014 after serving as the co-founder, CEO and President of CarWoo, Inc., an online car-buying marketplace. Tommy led CarWoo from inception to its acquisition by TrueCar in 2014. At CarWoo, he led all operational, fundraising, product management and strategic efforts across the company. Tommy is an alumnus of the Y Combinator startup program where CarWoo got its start. Y Combinator is the world’s premier startup accelerator, originating companies including Airbnb, DropBox, Cruise and many others.
Prior to CarWoo, Tommy was the co-founder and VP of Engineering for IMSafer, Inc. Tommy held several software engineering and technical sales roles prior to his time at IMSafer and CarWoo.
Tommy has a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Oregon State University.
John Pierantoni, Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer
John Pierantoni is the SVP, Chief Accounting Officer of TrueCar. John has over 20 years of experience optimizing and scaling public company accounting operations for high growth technology and entertainment companies. John joined TrueCar in December 2013. John is responsible for the controllership, internal controls, reporting, treasury and tax functions. Before joining TrueCar, John most recently held the VP Finance role at Cornerstone OnDemand, Inc., a Santa Monica-based publicly-traded enterprise software company where he helped coordinate their successful IPO in 2011. Previously, John served as the Chief Accounting Officer of Ticketmaster Entertainment and the Controller, Motion Picture Group of Paramount Pictures. In addition, he has approximately 13 years of public accounting experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers, including two years in PwC's London office. John is a CPA and holds a B.S. in Accounting from Boston College
Jeff Swart, Executive Vice President, General Counsel
Jeff Swart is the EVP and General Counsel of TrueCar. Jeff is a seasoned litigator with over 16 years of experience in commercial litigation and is one of the nation's most knowledgeable experts on auto regulatory compliance. Jeff joined TrueCar in May 2014 and has served as the company's outside regulatory counsel since January 2012. Jeff is responsible for managing auto regulatory compliance issues and assisting with other legal matters. Before joining TrueCar, Jeff was a litigation partner at the law firm of Alston & Bird LLP, and before that, a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC). Jeff holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from the Emory Goizueta Business School and a J.D. from Emory Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Emory Law Journal.
Susan Otto, Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer
Susan Otto is the EVP, Chief Human Resources Officer at TrueCar where she’s focused on organizational and talent development, driving employee engagement, and cultivating a culture and environment where individuals and teams can deliver their best performance.
Susan joined the TrueCar team with over 20 years of experience as a progressive HR leader across a range of industries in which she built a strong track record of fostering high performance cultures and strong employee engagement.
Prior to TrueCar, Susan spent 4 years as the Chief People Officer at ModCloth, a San Francisco-based online retailer of women’s apparel, where she helped define
company culture, transform the organization, and scale teams to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth start-up environment.
Prior to joining ModCloth in 2013, Susan held senior human resource leadership roles with Electronic Arts and Medtronic, with a significant focus on growing and developing global technology, sales and creative teams.
Susan holds a B.A. in Marketing and Management from Saint Mary’s University, and an M.A. in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
